'Your Move'
Welcome back to my blog where I celebrate artist heroes like Jonathan Wolstenholme. His quirky storytelling and irresistible paintings have captivated me for many years and I really want to share some of his works with you.
Have you ever dreamt of stepping into a world where books come alive, their pages whispering tales of adventure and intrigue? For artist, Jonathan Wolstenholme, this fantasy is brought to life in vibrant watercolours. Through his enchanting vision, old books transform into expressive characters - their stories revealed through quirky details and a sprinkle of subtle humour.
In Wolstenholme's ‘Time Gentlemen, Please’ I’m transported to an era I remember with great nostalgia, a quintessential British pub. The smoky haze, the classic ‘Dad’ pint glass, heavy with amber ale. I love the curls of cigarette smoke dancing upwards, clinking glasses, whispers of laughter and stories shared. You can almost smell the hops and tobacco, taste the camaraderie over a shared pint.

I first encountered Wolstenholme's work years ago, and his unique interpretation of books instantly grabbed my attention. Each book is transformed into an anthropomorphic character, arms outstretched to share a narrative. Through meticulously crafted watercolours, Wolstenholme really captures the essence of each story with remarkable detail.
But what truly steals my heart is the subtle humour woven into every piece. Wolstenholme's art is delightful storytelling and artistic virtuosity, a testament to his deep love for literature and his exceptional talent.
Wolstenholme's ‘Pulling Strings’ is delightful! The old style marionette strings, connecting to open books deep in conversation... I can't help but wonder what secrets they whisper, what tales they share.
If you hadn’t heard of Jonathan Wolstenholme I hope my introduction sees your heart touched by his magical paintings of books.
His adventures await.
Ps. I had to choose a few of Jonathan Wolstenholme's masterpieces, I love them all, it was delicious torture! Here's a taste to whet your appetite...
